This patient visited MOD Squad Dental for her complimentary cosmetic consultation. She wanted a wider, brighter smile and explained to Doc Friedman and Jess she felt like she did not show her teeth when she smiled. This patient was thrilled when she had a smile make-over with Dr. Friedman back in 1999. Dr. Friedman placed upper 8 porcelain veneers for this patient giving her a wider, and brighter smile. Unfortunately, this patient moved out of state and went in for a regular check-up in 2011.
To make a long story short...she was told she had "gross" decay around her veneers and open margins (veneers/crowns that do not fit properly). This dentist suggested she replace her upper 8 veneers with upper 11 full coverage procera crowns. The patient was terrified for the health of her teeth and replaced her existing restorations as diagnosed by this dentist. The results of the treatment are above. The patient was horrified. Not only does her smile lack natural aesthetics, the new length of the full coverage crowns caused the patient a profound lisp, the smile shape resemble that of a flat denture, and the color variation in her porcelain is not present.
She phoned Dr. Friedman, and spoke to Jessica explaining the situation. Jessica, Dr. Friedman's office manager, arranged the patients hotel reservations with the Hard Rock Hotel in the MOD Squad suite, scheduled all her visits to MOD Squad Dental, and explained in detail the smile correction make-over process. The patient not only enjoyed beautiful sunny San Deigo for 4 days, but also corrected her smile. The patient brought in her xrays from the other office which were used to diagnose the "decay and open margins". Dr. Friedman reviewed the xrays. No decay and/or open margins were present. This patient allowed me to share her story so that maybe she could keep future patients from this same expensive, and just not necessary situation.

This patient has 2 crowns done years ago on her front two teeth. The crown material used for her crowns and still used in many offices are metal crowns with porcelain fused to it. As you can see, this type of material stands out in photos and is not pleasing to her smile. Dr. Friedman used the Zoom Whitening process to whiten her teeth then replaced the upper two crowns with all porcelaon crowns that match perfectly.

This patient wanted to improve her reverse smile....WOW, Beautiful!!!!
She visited Dr. Friedman's office considering her options for correcting her reverse smile. She had been a grinder for many years and worn her front 4 teeth causing a reverse smile line. She also has a slight narrow smile. Doctor Friedman and Jessica discussed with her the option of 4 vs. 8 porcelain veneers. 4 veneers would correct her reverse smile line, and 8 would correct her reverse smile line and also give her a wider smile. Alexa had an accident at school one Saturday evening. She fell running to her car in the rain on rough asphalt. Dr. Friedman met her at the office on Sunday and let her know everything was going to be fixed and look beautiful. Alexa still had some asphalt stuck on her teeth and in her lips. The patient not only feared for her smile but was also worried about a large skin tag that was formed from the impact on her upper lip. Alexa broke 3 teeth in her accident. She needed 2 root canals on her front teeth as she broke off more than half of these teeth. Dr. Friedman removed the skin tag and prepped the patient for 2 full porcelain crowns and placed a white filling on the neighboring broken tooth. Alexa was thrilled with the results as you can see from her HUGE final photo smile.

This patient phoned the office interested in changing her smile but was not sure of her options to do so. She was scheduled for her complimentary consultation with Dr. Friedman and Jessica. She had a narrow smile, some misalignment, and her teeth were different sizes. She wished for a wider, brighter smile that "showed" more teeth. Digital photos were taken for digital imaging. Digital imaging gave her the opportunity to view options for her smile before making a decision. Together Dr. Friedman and the patient decided upper 8 porcelain veneers were the best option. We Zoom whitened her lower teeth for a boost of whiteness. The patient was scheduled for 2 appointments. The first appointment we placed upper 8 temporary restorations. This patient visited Dr. Friedman's office hating her smile. She had some old white fillings in her smile line that were stained and discolored from her soda habit. She also did not like the way her teeth were shaped. She thought some were small and some were too skinny. Oopsi—— This 16 year old had a skate board accident. He broke 2 front teeth in his smile line. The breaks were really deep penetrating the nerve of each tooth. Dr. Friedman bonded both teeth with composite material matching his surrounding teeth perfectly the day he came into the office.
Dr. Friedman discussed with the patient and his family the possibility of the teeth turning gray in days, weeks, or even years later from the nerve damage. If this were to happen, Dr. Friedman would place all porcelain crowns on the two teeth matching the rest of his surrounding teeth and smile.

This story touches my heart as this patient has a great personality and career that was not being represented by his current smile. He will need extensive surgical procedures for his bone loss and to place permanent fixed dental restorations in the future. After the patient was cleaned with our dental hygienist, Doc Friedman did caries control removing all his current cavities. This patient was so afraid of going to the dentist, shestayed away as long as possible. Because of the sedation process, Doc was able to spend several hours with the patient allowing her entire treatment to be completed in only 2 appointments. This patient flew in from Louisiana on a Friday and stayed for one week in San Diego. She had visited with Doc Friedman and Jessica over the phone via video skype and discussed her options of treatment for the desired smile she had been wanted for many years. She planned on getting as much work done on this visit as possible. Dr. Friedman saw this patient for her first visit and did all of her pre-treatment procedures. We took several before photos and digitally enhanced them to give her an idea of her desired smile. Dr. Friedman and Jessica gave their options on the shape that would look best with her hair color, skin tone, height, and weight. All of these factors make a difference for the end result.
Suzanne was placed in braces on the first visit and on the very next day we sedated the patient with conscious sedation and prepared her upper 8 teeth for her porcelain veneers. The pictures above are her before photo and her after photo with temporary veneers. She will be wearing her temporaries for 6 days while her final porcelain veneers are being generated. Dr. Friedman prefers his patients to wear temporary restorations as this is their "test drive before buying the car". Any changes the patient would like to make would be made during this period. She will return to the office for one final visit to place the final porcelain veneers on her upper 8 teeth creating a gorgeous smile. With the advancements with orthodontic material and technique, she will only be seen for 3-4 visits to complete the straightening process of her lower teeth.

When the patients permanent teeth grew in they were a little small for his face structure, height, and weight with some spacing on the upper arch. After discussing his options of a wider smile, Dr. Friedman placed upper 8 no-prep porcelain veneers in 2 visits and zoom whitened the patient's lower teeth. No-prep veneers are placed on the natural teeth with out smoothing the natural tooth structure of the teeth. What a GREAT smile!

This patient and his mother visited Dr. Friedman's office for a complimenary consultation. The patient had an under bite and had visited several other doctors for suggestions on treatment. He was told his only option to correct his under bite was to break his jaw and surgically reposition his lower jaw by having his mouth wired shut for several weeks. After visiting with Dr. Friedman, and discussing his many options, they decided on placing porcelain veneers on his upper 10 teeth to give the appearance of his bite being corrected.
Jacob's dental treatment was completed in 2 visits with out surgery. Dr. Friedman took the left photo during the patient's consultation visit and utilizing his digital software, was able to show the patient and his mother a preview of what his smile would look like after the veneers were placed. The results were amazing!!!

This patient lives over seas and wanted to change his smile for many years. Mario visited several doctors where he lived and did not have a comfortable feeling about their suggestions or the dental equipment they were using. He found us on the internet and stated he was very impressed with our website, and advanced dental equipment and procedures utilized by Dr. Friedman. He phoned the office and spoke to Jessica for several minutes discussing details of veneers and time needed for such a procedure. Jessica set up a video interview for the patient and Dr. Friedman to get an idea of his current situation and concerns. After the video interview, the patient was scheduled for upper 10 porcelain veneers and the Zoom whitening procedure for his lowers. The patient was originally told he would need a root canal on his front tooth as it was completely rotated sideways. Dr. Friedman prepped the upper 10 veneers, and the patient wore his temporary veneers for 1 week while his final were being constructed.

This patient visited Dr. Friedman asking for a new smile. She had a root canal when she was younger on 1 of her front 2 teeth. Afterward, the dentist placed “bonding” or composite filling material on the tooth. The patient at the time was not finish growing and bonding was the temporary choice to restore her tooth after the root canal. Now that the patient is older, and her facial features are mature, Dr. Friedman spoke to her about a more permanent procedure by placing 2 porcelain restorations on her front 2 teeth. Dr. Friedman suggested to the patient that she bleach her teeth with our in-office whitening process, Zoom 2, to give her the optimal color choice as her porcelain restorations will never change color and/or shape. The patient also mentioned she did not like her “gummy smile”. Dr. Friedman and the patient decided they would do a procedure to expose more of her natural tooth and remove the excess gum tissue on her upper 8 teeth utilizing the laser for fast and predictable healing. This patient had been to several dentists and had several procedures done to her front 4 teeth. She orginally had spaces between her upper 4 teeth and wanted to know her options to close them. When we saw the patient for her complimentary consultation appointment, she had bonding (composite material) placed on her upper 4 teeth with another dentist. She did not like the result. As you can see in her before picture inset to the left, the bonding was several different colors on the front 4 teeth and the gum levels were not even and very low. Dr. Friedman did some gum recontouring with his laser on the front 4 teeth making the gum levels even and taking away excess gum tissue. The patient then did the Zoom in-office whitening system on her entire mouth. After achieving her ideal shade, Dr. Friedman placed upper 4 porcelain veneers. With 3 visits, this patient final got the results for her smile she had been searching for. What a GREAT smile!!
